Webinar Creating a culture of Adventurous Play – Risk Rich Environment
Think back to your own childhood – What did that look like? Was the main focus outdoors?
This session will provoke participants to foster play spaces, which are challenging and recognise a degree of risk is often beneficial, if not essential. Children and young people enjoy challenging, adventurous play opportunities where they can test themselves and extend their abilities. Giving children the chance to encounter hazards and take risks provides other benefits, such as the chance to learn how to assess and manage these and similar risks for themselves .
We will inspire you to think about how to bring back the joy and freedom to childhood, while considering practicalities and addressing regulatory requirements, duty of care and community attitudes. The session will provide practical examples and useful strategies to support children in taking on reasonable challenges, and explore how to design a learning environment that enables children, supports their competence, growing independence and most of all encourages adventurous play!
